"ATD Fourth World has opened my eyes and made me much more aware of poverty and social exclusion. I knew poverty existed in the UK, but not the extent of it.

My first project involved assisting with the organisation of the ATD Fourth World European Conference. MEPs, civil servants, NGO representatives and academics came together to disscuss poverty issues. I saw how people living in poverty and social exclusion could engage in dialogue with those who are in a position of power.

Volunteering at ATD Fourth World has helped me to gain a greater understanding of inequalities within society. Its unique way of working with the poorest - which is based on respect – has really inspired and motivated me to try and help bring about change!"
