"A sense of community was
a central focus of our action when I worked in Tanzania for
three years. We would go to the fish market and talk with the
young people we knew there. Many of them had run away from home
when still very young, and now they were living on the streets
and making a living from minding cars. I witness these young
men share their meals and the little money they made, and I
saw them come together to fight for the money that would pay
for someone's hospital costs or go towards a decent burial for
one of their friends."
