"I come from a Fourth World family. Ever since I can remember
I have seen my parents go without to give me and my four sisters
and three brothers a better future. Sometimes we had no food, no
electricity, and once no roof over our heads. Today my sisters and
brothers are doing what my mum and dad did for us. I was on the
receiving end of what ATD Fourth World does.
I used to be shy, withdrawn and felt ashamed
and that I counted for nothing. Trough ATD Fourth World I have
become bubbly, out going and confident in myself. I have overcome
my shame, got myself an education and found my voice. I am a full-time
volunteer because I want to shout out what I and others have lived,
or are still living today. I want to tell them that they are not
nothing and that we count for something."
