Family Respite Stays
provide children and parents in poverty with a
break from the stresses of everyday life. During
the stay in Frimhurst
Family House volunteers and families
form a close bond, sharing workshops, outings
and daily life together. They are also a great
opportunity to learn about poverty and from each
other's experiences.
Commitment: one to two weeks during the school
holidays
Minimum age: 20 years old
Location: Frimley Green, Surrey (accommodation
provided)

Workshops
 |
Volunteers are needed to run workshops
with children and parents experiencing poverty.
Whatever your profession, artist, craftsman, sportsman,
yoga teacher, cook, etc... we need your skills.
Workshops take place during family respite stays,
at monthly meetings with families and during street
festivals. Through working with these families,
join us in discovering paths towards a world where
no one is excluded.
Commitment: One off
Location: Southwark, London and/or Frimley green,
Surrey

Doorstep
libraries  |
The doorstep library is a new
innovative project aimed at engaging with disadvantaged
families. Volunteers are needed to read to children
at home or lend books to them at their doorstep.
By supporting this new project volunteers will
help young parents to acquire self-confidence
and contribute to changing attitudes towards the
poorest people in the community. Volunteers will
need to be imaginative, enthusiastic and have
an interest in social exclusion. The knowledge
gained will be particularly useful for those working,
or considering working in the social or education
sector. You will also receive supportive and professional
training.
Commitment: Tuesdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
or 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, 2 to 4 times per month,
minimum 6 months

Summer Street
Festivals
 |
The Summer Street Festival invites
people from all walks of life to come and share
skills with children and parents in a Housing
Estate in south London. It is a straightforward
way to meet families and help us discover paths
towards a world where no one is excluded!
Commitment: From Friday 25th July to Wednesday
6th August 2008
Minimum age: 18 years old

International
Youth Workcamps  |
Join an enthusiastic group of
young volunteers from the UK and overseas in supporting
the Frimhurst Family House team during the summer.
The workcamp volunteers will help prepare for
family respite stays and other summer events,
and help with the maintenance of the buildings
and grounds. International workcamps are a fantastic
opportunity to discover more about poverty and
the work of ATD Fourth World.
Commitment: From 23rd of June to 18th of July
2008 or from 21st July to 22nd August 2008

Community
Project
 |
Help run a community project working
with residents to bring greater opportunities
to their estate and make it a more inclusive and
friendlier place to live. The project involves
weekly visits to residents to gain their involvement
in the project as well as running art and craft
activities and workshops in school holidays.
Commitment: One day per week Min. 6 months. Workshops
one off or regularly
Minimum age: 18 years old Location: Camberwell,

Gardening
and maintenance of bulidings
 |
ATD Fourth World is looking for volunteers
to help with the maintenance of our London office
as well as the up keep of our garden. In addition,
we will need a volunteer to take part in the maintenance
and gardening days which are based at the Frimhurst
Family House (Frimley Green, Surrey).
Commitment: London: 1 to 2 days per month; Frimhurst:
1 day every 6 weeks.

Fundraising

Whether you are at School, University,
work, in your community or an individual, you
can support ATD Fourth World in the fight to eradicate
poverty by raising funds. We have a range of materials
and information to support you and can provide
speakers and lots of ideas for putting the fun
into fundraising!

Administration
 |
There are many office based jobs
within ATD Fourth World that could benefit from
your time and experience! The sorts of roles which
volunteers are currently involved in include:
assisting in the organisation of events; giving
supporters more information about ATD Fourth World
and general office administration.
The essential skills required are good organisational
skills, attention to detail, and basic computer
skills.
Commitment: 1 day per week; 6 months commitment
would be appreciated

Research and
policy work  |
The Research and Policy Officer’s
role will involve minute taking, and writing up
of Policy Forum meetings. The role would be ideally
suitable for someone who is interested in social
policy issues.

Commitment: 1 day per week; 6 months commitment
would be appreciated

Networking
and Promotion  |
Volunteers are needed to raise
awareness about poverty and the effects it has
on families. If you love networking and chatting
to people and would like to help us to reach new
individuals/groups, we can provide speakers and
lots of ideas to support you.

Communication
and Marketing
 |
The role involves evaluating current
marketing activity and developing and testing
new approaches; assisting in the preparation of
fundraising initiatives; creating and updating
leaflets and monthly newsletters; upkeep of the
ATD Fourth World website, designing posters and
assisting with the preparation of the young family
workshops.
This role is ideal for a marketing student who
wants to develop their marketing experience (although
not essential). The skills required are excellent
interpersonal and communication skills, both in
person and in writing.
Commitment: flexible but until the end of the
project
Location: London or from home.

Full-time
volunteering
 |
Full-time volunteers are people
committed to eradicating poverty. They come
from all backgrounds and offer all kinds of skills
and experiences. They all have chosen to live with the same basic wage and
are part of an international group of 400 volunteers involved
in projects with very poor families in 28 countries on five continents.
